The dying-off of a large local elm tree set this project in motion in 1997. With the help of my co-primitive friend D.J., the canoe was finished in three short days. Always considered temporary or "emergency" canoes, they were rarely kept in service for long. This canoe is documented in "Bulletin of Primitive Technology", No. 15, Spring 1998. For more information, see http://www.primitive.org/.
