Atlatl Hunter Encampment

This oldest Native dwelling from the Paleo-Indian period – about 10,000 years ago – is conjectural, since the materials used in its construction have not survived from those remote times. Mobile hunters – two in this case – would need a light, portable shelter. The conical “teepee” frame is easily erected from deadwood or small green saplings cut at the construction site. The bison-hide roof and  catttail-and-birch wall mats roll up for transport on our two frame backpacks, leaving our hands free to carry our atlatls and hunting spears.

This demo was set up for the Chimney Point, VT Open Atlatl competition.
