Many materials were substituted for the roof and wall sections of lodges, depending on local availability. Here, birch bark roof panels are totally waterproof. The cattail-stalk walls allow for air circulation. The minute rain showers start, they swell and become waterproof. This lodge was built for the Haddam Meadows powwow.
